Moscow Airport Domodedovo

In 2004, the EAST LINE Group initiated implementation of a large-scale project designed to expand and modernize the Domodedovo passenger terminal.

The exterior and the interior of the passenger terminal have been completely overhauled since 2004. The Domodedovo airport terminal is also the only terminal in Russia that has been certified in compliance with the ISO 9001:2000 international quality standard and categorized as “C” in compliance with the classification of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

27 restaurants and cafes, 46 retail outlets as well as a round-the-clock Internet-center with comfortably appointed workstations are at passengers’ disposal. Wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) is available in the business hall, the VIP hall, and in waiting rooms located after passport control of the International zone on the first and second floors.

There is a DVD cinema in the waiting room that offers a pleasant and comfortable movie-going experience. A Duty Free zone operates in the international sector.

According to plans, in 2007, the first stage of the terminal reconstruction is to be completed and its area is to reach 220,000 square meters. The number of check-in counters will be increased up to 132, which will help to significantly enhance the capacity of the terminal. In 2007 the first stage of the construction of “Domodedovo Plaza” trade and entertainment center will be completed.

On the territory of the terminal there are bank machines, currency exchange bureaus, bank subsidiaries, a depository, a post office, a pharmacy, and more than 40 payphones good for local, intercity, and international calls, as well as booking offices selling air and railway tickets. Passengers departing for countries with a milder climate can check in their winter clothes for the time they will be away. Copying, printing, and faxing services are also available in the airport terminal.

Moscow Airport Domodedovo

Domodedovo offers passengers different options to check-in for a flight, which include inter alia check-in at late passengers counters or counters for passengers traveling without luggage. There are also counters for outsized luggage. Check-in counters that are locates on ‘isles’ principle are equipped with automated departure control system (DCS).

People with limited mobility are paid special attention at Domodedovo airport. Employees of an escort service established specifically for such people accompany disabled passengers during their stay at the airport. In summer of 2005, this service was equipped with special elevators to transport disabled passengers directly to aircraft.

Believers can visit the Archangel Michael Orthodox chapel and the “Safar” mosque (“Safar” is Arabic for “journey”) on the second floor of the terminal.

In 2005, to improve the customer care quality, an additional directory service was launched – an automated client information system (ACIS) – accessible by telephone 24 hours a day. This system can be used in an interactive mode to obtain information about the services available at the terminal, transportation and parking, specialized airport facilities, and flight status.

Moscow Airport Domodedovo

In February of 2006, the Domodedovo International Airport started offering express passenger check-in service for domestic and international flights. This service implies that a passenger accompanied by an airport employee checks in for his or her flight and undergoes passport, customs, and, if necessary, sanitation clearances, faster.

Domodedovo is the only airport in the Moscow aviation hub that uses air bridges to service both international and domestic flights. The total number of air bridges is 24, including two special air bridges required to service wide-body aircraft.

The Domodedovo airport operates a tourist zone equipped with 25 temporary counters. Its capacity is 1,400 passengers per hour.

Passengers with children can take advantage of the 24-hour mother-and-child room designated for children under eight years of age accompanied by one of the parents. The mother-and-child room operates a children’s center where children can remain under the supervision of caretakers and animators while their parents undergo pre-flight formalities. Employees of the center organize contests, quizzes, and indoor games for children.

The entire engineering infrastructure of the terminal, including fire-extinguishing, heating, air-conditioning, and lighting systems, is managed by an intellectual building management system (BMS – Building Management System) which at present controls more than 26,000 points.

Of all the Moscow airports, Domodedovo is provided with the best quality ground transportation system. The airport is connected with the capital by a speedway that enables passengers to arrive at the airport on time for their flights, whether they use their own vehicles or public transit (route taxies, express buses). The terminal offers paid parking services. Its parking lots are able to accommodate 5,000 vehicles.

The airport is also connected with the capital by a railway. The Rapid Transport System (RTS) transports passengers from the downtown airport terminal located in the building of the Paveletsky railway station to Domodedovo airport and back. The terminal operates eight check-in counters and 23 booking offices that sell tickets to all destinations. To accommodate out-of-town passengers, another rapid railway route was launched in the summer of 2006 that connects the Kalanchovskaya railway station (Moscow) with Domodedovo airport.

Over the past four years (the downtown terminal was opened on August 3, 2002), the Aeroexpress transported more than 10.2 million passengers and more than 10 thousand tons of luggage between the Paveletsky railway station and Domodedovo airport. On average, the Rapid Transport System transports more than nine thousand passengers a day, or about 25% of the total passenger traffic volume of Domodedovo International Airport.

The Domodedovo airport terminal was the first in Russia to offer transfer technologies based on ICAO and IATA recommendations to its client airlines. Transit connections were made possible thanks to servicing both international and domestic flights within the boundaries of one terminal.

At present, there are five intermodal programs in operation, connecting downtown Moscow with: Samara (total travel time: 199-minutes) via Samara airline, Perm via Perm Airlines (210 minutes); Volgograd via VolgaAviaexpress (220 minutes); Kazan via Tatarstan airlines (180 minutes); Ufa via VIM (195 minutes). These programs ensure convenient connections between passenger aircraft departure/arrival times and arrival of the Aeroexpress train.

Inter-modal projects provide airlines with additional competitive advantages, and passengers – with the possibility to reach downtown Moscow from various cities within the shortest guaranteed time possible. Passengers serviced by the inter-modal projects check-in at the Paveletsky terminal and use the RTS free of charge.
