Cargo Terminal

In 1994-1997, implementing its investment program, the Domodedovo Airport Complex constructed the most modern international air cargo complex in Russia. Domodedovo-Terminal operates 24 hours a day, offers a full scope of cargo services, and processes all kinds of cargo categories, including dangerous ones (including explosives and fissile radioactive substances). The cargo terminal is equipped with all the necessary facilities required to clear commodities through customs (including electronic declaration of goods), deliver them, if required by client, to any location in Moscow and the Moscow region, and ensure transit of cargo heading to Russian and foreign airport via Domodedovo.

Domodedovo-Terminal is able to process up to 800 tons of cargo per day which is 10 times the processing capacity of cargo terminals of most Russian airports. The overall area occupied by the warehouse facility is approximately 13 thousand square meters.

For clients’ convenience, representative offices of shipping companies and cargo brokerages, as well as airline agents selling cargo transit services, are located within immediate proximity of Domodedovo-Terminal.

Domodedovo-Terminal is provided with highly technological warehouse equipment: electric loaders, elevators, elevating packaging tables, shelving and weighing equipment, refrigerators and freezers, as well as video surveillance systems.

At present, Domodedovo-Terminal is deploying a new heavy-weight cargo processing technology. This technology helps optimize centering and securing of cargo onboard aircraft. The new solution enhances in-flight security and significantly simplifies the heavy-weight cargo shipment procedure for customers.

Special equipment is available to process, store, and transport fissile and radioactive materials, such as a spectrometric complex (SKS-50), a gamma spectrometer, and a radiometer-spectrometer.

To operatively provide customers with all the necessary information, Domodedovo-Terminal operates an information kiosk that offers free information on the services available at the cargo terminal, the Domodedovo airport timetable, as well as the status of customers’ cargo. Provision of information to customers is supplemented with a specialized page on the airport’s Internet portal. Customers can use this resource to complete and submit certain forms, automatically calculate shipping rates, and monitor cargo status.

If necessary, cargo complex specialists will provide all the necessary information on departing or arriving cargo, as well as advisory assistance.

Cargo Terminal

A new service – "mobile terminal complex" – is currently being deployed. A shipping agent drives a vehicle equipped with a weighing scale to customer’s office or warehouse to collect or deliver cargo. This service also helps reduce shipping formalities. Thus, the “mobile terminal complex” saves a lot of time both for cargo shippers and receivers.

Despite the fact that the quality of production, information, and management technologies employed by the Domodedovo-Terminal is not second to that of the best airports of the world, further development and improvement of the cargo terminal continues. Technological enhancement and structural reorganization are viewed as the principal reserve that can help increase profitability and improve competitiveness of the enterprise.

Development prospects

In the nearest future, the Domodedovo-Terminal intends to:

  • Expand warehousing facilities by reconstructing existing production areas;
  • Deploy the radiofrequency identification technology to process cargo;
  • Increase the processing share of packaged cargo;
  • Create new transportation and logistical chains of cargo shipment;
  • Further develop its own cargo shipment sales network.
  • To that end, the company will strive to accomplish the following objectives:

  • To reconstruct the cargo collection/disbursement area;
  • To construct a multilevel packaging warehouse;
  • To launch operation of the containers and pallets processing line;
  • To install highly productive container mechanization equipment, equipment used to store packaging tools, as well as new modifications of warehousing and ramping equipment;
  • To create an automated cargo booking system based on the international standards;
  • To develop a software suite to monitor movement of packaging tools.
