  • 1954 On November 13, the USSR Council of Ministers adopted the proposal of the Head Administration of Civil Air Fleet (HACAF) to start the construction of the second civil airport of Moscow, near Yelgazino, Podolsk District, Moscow Region.

  • 1956 Order of the HACAF Director No.9 "On formation of the Directorate for construction of the second Moscow airport and on appointment Mr. I.P. Ivanov the Director." The Directorate for construction of 306 object (Moscow II Airport) was created within the Moscow Administration of Transport Aviation (MATA) of HACAF at the USSR Council of Ministers.

  • 1958 The USSR Council of Ministers ordered to finish the first construction stage in 1962.

  • 1962 Order of the HACAF Director No.200 "On arranging Moscow Domodedovo Airport" said: To arrange within the Moscow Administration of Transport Aviation the Domodedovo Airport and to name it Moscow Domodedovo Airport." April 7, 1962 is the date of birth of Domodedovo Airport.
  • 1963 Order of the MATA CAF Director No.210 "On practice flights at the Domodedovo airdrome".
    Order of the MATA CAF Director No.286 "On the start of commercial flights to the Domodedovo airdrome".
    Order of the MATA CAF Director No.305 "On the start of freight flights to Domodedovo Airport.
    Order of the MATA CAF Director No.414 "On the start of regular postal flights 927-928 from Domodedovo airport".
    Start of freight and postal flights of the Tu-104 and Il-18 aircraft.
    Formation of Linear Operation and Repair Workshops (LORW).

  • 1964 Start of passenger traffic, Tu-104 flight to Sverdlovsk.
    Order of Civil Aviation Minister No.024 "On formation of Domodedovo United Air Group".
    Order of the MATA CAF Director No.200 "On the start of Tu-114 fights from Domodedovo".
    Order of the HACAF No.495 "Permit for regular flights from the Domodedovo airdrome".
  • 1965 Domodedovo airport terminal was opened.
  • 1966 1966 Start of regular passenger Il-18 flights to Bratsk.
    Start of Il-62 operation tests.

  • 1967 Air show at Domodedovo.
    The first test flight of Il-62 to Khabarovsk.

  • 1968 Order of the MTA Director "First passenger flight on Il-62 from Domodedovo Airport".

  • 1977 Supersonic aircraft Tu-144 flew to Alma-Ata.

  • 1978 Order of the USSR Ministry of Civil Aviation No.171 "On establishment of the Domodedovo Production Unit of the Moscow Civil Aviation Transport Administration."

  • 1979 Order of the USSR Ministry of Civil Aviation No.70 "Permit for the Domodedovo airdrome to operate at the meteorological minimum of I and II categories."
  • 1983 The first regular passenger flight of the Il-86 wide-body aircraft from Domodedovo to Tashkent.

  • 1992 Domodedovo airport was assigned the international airport status.

  • 1993 Start of the test flights of the Il-96-300 aircraft.

  • 1995 New cargo terminal commissioned.

  • 1996 New international lounge commissioned.

  • 1997 The EAST LINE GROUP becomes the managing company of Domodedovo Airport.
    An integrated servicing system was implemented for passengers and aircraft. The international freight terminal was constructed. The passenger traffic reached 4.5 mln people.
    Domodedovo Airport is a leading one in Russia in terns of cargo carriage.

  • 1998 In-Flight Catering Complex and Hydrant Pit commissioned.
  • 1999 Start of an integrated Airport development program until 2003. The program was approved by the Government of the Moscow Region and the Board of the Federal Aviation Service of the Russian Federation.
  • 2000 Full-scale overhaul of Domodedovo passenger terminal finished.
  • 2001 The Best CIS Airport award from the Airport CIS Civil Aviation Association.

  • 2002 The Rapid Transport System connecting the Airport with the Paveletsky Railway Terminal in the centre of Moscow commissioned. The Domodedovo Airports Moscow city passenger terminal opened.

  • 2003 Airline Business, an international air magazine, placed the Domodedovo Airport among the 150 best airports of the world for the fastest growth of passenger traffic.
  • 2004 Domodedovo Airport entered the 100 leading airports of the world. The annual traffic reached 12.670 mln passengers. The works to expand the passenger terminal area started.
  • 2005 The airport became a leader in terms of passenger traffic in the Moscow Aviation Hub. The total annual passenger traffic of the airport was 13.960 mln people. The monthly average growth of the passenger traffic exceeded 15%. At the end of the major overhaul, the second runway (RW-2) was certified under the ICAOs CAT IIIA standard.

  • 2006 Domodedovo passenger terminal obtained ISO 9001-2000 certification to confirm the high level of organization and production management.
    Following the audit by the US Transportation Security Administration, a memorandum was signed about the compliance of the flights security at Domodedovo to the US and ICAO requirements.
    According to ACI EUROPE rate, the Domodedovo Airport retained a leading position in terms of passenger traffic in the Moscow Air Junction and became the first among the most dynamically developing airports of the second group in Europe; their annual passenger traffic varies from 10 to 25 mln passengers.
    The jury of the most prestigious awards in airspace industry, Flight International Aerospace Industry Awards, awarded the Domodedovo Airport in the nomination Infrastructure.

  • 2007 Overhaul of RW-1. The technologies and artificial covering used were exceptional in Russia.
    The Aircraft Maintenance & Repair base arranged the workshop for maintenance and repair of the wheels and brakes of the foreign aircraft providing the unique service both on the market of Russia, and the CIS countries.
    The polling of eight million passengers worldwide by the independent company Skytrax (the United Kingdom) specialized on the aviation industry showed that Domodedovo airport was nominated as one of the three best airports of the Central and Eastern Europe.

  • 2008 The automatic system of the luggage sorting was commissioned which enabled to considerably expand the efficiency of the luggage handling and enhance the passenger service quality.
    The audit of the US Transportation Security Administration confirms that the quality of the aviation security in the Moscow airport of Domodedovo is at the high level and complies with all standards of the USA and ICAO.
    The first air-strip of the Domodedovo airport is certified by the ICAO CAT III standard.
    The passenger polling by the independent company Skytrax (United Kingdom) showed that Domodedovo Airport retained its leading positions among the best airports of the Central and Eastern Europe.

  • 2009 The high-technology infrastructure of Domodedovo Airport enabled to land the biggest passenger super-aircraft Airbus 380 for the first time in the history of Russian civil aviation.
    By the results of the annual international contest World Airport Awards 2009 (organizer Skytrax), Domodedovo Airport was nominated as one of the three best airports of the Eastern Europe.

  • 2010 For the first time in Russia, the Multilateration System (MLAT) was commissioned, which enabled all-weather monitoring of the on-ground movements of aircraft and special vehicles in the airport.
    The International Association of Travel Agents (IATA) assigned Moscow Domodedovo airport the PLATINUM status, which confirms successful implementation of the bidimensional barcoding technology for the flight information on the boarding cards.
    By the results of the annual international contest World Airport Awards 2010 organized by the Skytrax, Domodedovo Airport was nominated as one of the best airports in the Eastern Europe.
